My 'down there' is really itchy. What could be causing this?

I have never done anything that might be construed as sexual in my life. I don't shave 'it'. Nothing in my day-to-day life has changed. I haven't traveled anywhere or stayed at any hotels. I'm too embarassed to talk to my doctor about my 'girly parts' because he's new and I don't know him yet.
